Thank you again to all those of the St John Family who raise funds for us.
Up until mid-September, the Priory of England had donated £127,674, with a further £58,867 pledged. The Priory of the United States has given us £93,557 and the Priories of Scotland, Canada , New Zealand and Wales have given £83,666, £43,542, £61,680 and £10,000 respectively.
In England, we owe Priory Hospitaller Sheena Davies a big thank you for organising this year’s Symposium, which took place on 2 September in Milton Keynes. Welsh Hospitaller, Rona Price, was also kind enough to attend, giving us an update on the sterling work she and the Welsh Priory have been doing on behalf of our charity.
Thanks also go to pre-eminent Oculoplastic Surgeon, Tony Tyers, who gave a fascinating talk at the Symposium on his experiences as a visiting consultant at the Hospital. Mr Tyers has visited Jerusalem as a volunteer almost every year for the past 15 years, and gave a warm report on the achievements of Dr Bashir Shaheen, who is now able take on the bulk of the common plastic surgery problems at the Hospital. We were delighted to learn that Dr Shaheen recently completed a year of further training in ophthalmic Plastic Surgery at the Hadassah Hospital and has now been appointed Consultant at our Jerusalem facility.
