In June, as part of the celebrations of the Hospital’s 125th Anniversary and its International Patient Relief Appeal, the Grand Prior, HRH the Duke of Gloucester accompanied by The Lord Vestey, Chairman of the Hospital Board and Mr. Rod Bull, Chief Executive, visited St. John Hong Kong Ambulance (HKSJA).
At their Hedquaters in St John Tower, the icon passed into Hong Kong’s keeping for a short while. During our stay there, the Grand Prior officially opened the Shek Pai Wan Training Centre and this ceremony was followed by a traditional lion dance.
The monsoon rains prevented us from visiting the St. John War Memorial.
We were very well looked after. HM Consul General generously hosted a dinner party at which numerous distinguished guests were in attendance. On another evening, a formal dinner was held at the famous Jockey Club, at which an opportunity was given for us to describe our work and the assistance we need to continue our charitable works.
In front of a packed cinema audience at a film premiere, Lord Vestey was presented with a cheque for HK$1.31 million as a contribution towards our International Patient Relief Appeal.
Through the entire visit the professionalism and pride of all HKSJA members shone through – they are a credit to the Order.
