Our main hospital is in East Jerusalem and is ISO (International Organisation for Standardisation) accredited. It has a 49-bed capacity and is staffed predominantly by local specialist surgeons, doctors, nurses and paramedics.
There is a large, modern Outpatients Department and very busy specialist Retinal, Corneal and Paediatric services. Our two operating theatres, with the most modern equipment we can provide, give a 24-hour emergency service where all kinds of major eye surgery are performed.
Treatment is not always easy because of the restrictions on employment and general movement of both staff and patients in the region.
Despite the difficulties, we saw and treated 45,238 patients at our Jerusalem Hospital in 2012.
We attract a substantial number of volunteer doctors from around the world who not only help care for our patients but also help in the teaching and training of our local doctors.
If you are interested in becoming a medical volunteer at the Jerusalem Hospital, or on outreach work in Gaza and Hebron, please contact Medical Director, Dr. Jeanne Garth, at meddir [at] sjeh [dot] org.
