~ CONCERT FOR PEACE & PROSPERITY: EASTERN VOICES, WESTERN ECHOES

Join tenor Dennis O'Neill and a host of leading young Middle Eastern and Western operatic talent for an inspirational evening of music from the Western and Arabic Worlds.

Accompanied by Orion, the Orchestra of Rising Stars, the programme features excerpts by Verdi, Bizet, Rossini, Puccini, Handel and Donizetti, in addition to fine works from the classical Arabic repertoire. Plus the premiere of a classical, contemporary work by young Lebanese composer Bushra El-Turk (pictured). 'Of Laughter and Forgetting' is written for piano and orchestra (which includes the nai and qanoun) with Tala Tutunji on the piano.

The evening is presented by the Peace and Prosperity Trust to raise funds for the ‘Patient Relief Fund’ for St John's Eye Hospital in Jerusalem, and to promote aspiring young artists.

~ Keeping Peace in Sight - A Fundraising Event Showcasing Palestinian and Israeli Collaborations

In aid of the St John of Jerusalem Eye Hospital Group

Thursday 29th March, Phoenix Artists Club, doors 7.30pm

Linelines, a collective of poets, writers, musicians and performers based in London, use their free time to organise benefit gigs for international development organisations in the UK. They have chosen SJEHG for their Spring Fundraiser and will be bringing to you an outstanding evening of entertainment and education, showcasing writers, musicians and poets, who all in their own way are dedicated to peace and collaboration in the Middle East.
Come and learn more about what we do and enjoy the entertainment.

Headlining the event will be the acclaimed Palestinian author Dr. Ghada Karmi.

DR GHADA KARMI
Born in Jerusalem in 1939, Dr. Ghada Karmi is a Palestinian doctor of medicine, author and academic. Her 2002 autobiography, In Search of Fatima: A Palestinian Story, describes growing up in the neighbourhood of Katamon, with its mixture of Palestinian Christians and Muslims. Ghada is a fellow and lecturer at the Institute of Arab & Islamic studies at Exeter University, an Associate Fellow at the Royal Institute of International Affairs in London and a visiting professor at London Metropolitan University. She is also vice-chair of the Council for Arab-British Understanding (CAABU).

Come and enjoy hearing Dr Karmi talk about Jerusalem.  There will also be a lineup of other artists and an open mic session with poets invited to give short performances on themes of collaboration and peace. MC for the evening will be Luke Roberts, one of the founders of Lifelines.
