Medical volunteers including doctors, ophthalmic nurses and orthoptists, have a vital part to play in the life of the Hospital. They can provide surgical expertise, work with outpatients at our clinics, assist the outreach teams and teach and train our local staff.
Possibly the most important result of these visits is the effect on morale of the whole staff. This is particularly true when some volunteers have been coming to the Hospital for years and who are welcomed back as old friends.
The location of the Hospital and its outreach activities means that volunteering with us is not for the faint-hearted! But it brings tremendous rewards - this is a wonderful part of the world with enormous cultural diversity, it provides the opportunity to see unique medical cases and to make a genuine difference to the lives of so many people.
If you are interested in becoming a medical volunteer at our Hospital in Jerusalem or on outreach work in Gaza and Hebron, please contact Medical Director, Dr. Jeanne Garth, at meddir [at] sjeh [dot] org.
Thank you.
